| Harmonious parent-teacher relation must for child’s development: Dy CM | | Attends Parents’ Day function at Khour | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, FEB 5: Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand today called for developing harmonious parent-teacher relationship for building a sound foundation for the overall development of child’s personality. Speaking at a Parents’ Day function at Government Higher Secondary School, Khour, which was attended by a large number of people, Tara Chand said that while home is the ground where the seeds of value are sown, it is the school which provides the atmosphere for chiselling the inherent talent among them. He said congenial atmosphere at home and school is imperative for giving the child the necessary ambience for achieving his potential to the maximum. The Deputy Chief Minister said students studying in higher secondary schools are at a sensitive stage of their life where they have to take critical decisions about their future vocation. He said that parent-teacher meets should be organized more often at this crucial juncture to facilitate the parents in guiding their wards Expressing concern over growing stress among children, the Deputy Chief Minister said parents should maintain regular contact with the teachers of their wards to keep themselves abreast with the inclination and habits of their wards. He maintained that teacher training programmes are focusing on child-centric education wherein the entire mode of teaching is based on moulding the child to the right path. Addressing the audience, Tara Chand elaborated on the development agenda of the coalition and said that the Government is committed to expand the education sector with numerous schools colleges and universities coming up in near future. He said that emphasis is being laid on skill enhancement among children and a number of polytechnics are being set up across the State. He said that RET and SSA teachers have an important role to play in the spread of education to far-flung areas. Referring to the development works in Khour, the Deputy Chief Minister said a Grid Station is coming up at Palanwala at a cost of Rs. 30 crore. He said that besides installation of transformers and construction of receiving station, steps are afoot to implement the irrigation schemes in the area. He said that in areas facing shortage of irrigation water, electricity would be provided round-the-clock for running the irrigation pumps adding, that government gives utmost priority to the welfare of the inhabitants of this primarily agrarian belt. He also highlighted the relief package being implemented for the border migrants of the area and special package for BPL families. A scintillating cultural programme was also presented by the Information Department on the occasion. Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister also took round of the school premises and instructed the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu to prepare a proposal for construction of a stadium in the school. Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Dr. M. K. Bhandari, SDM, Akhnoor, SE, PWD and several senior officers of PWD, PDD and PHE departments also accompanied him. Later, Tara Chand visited Chak Malal and Danwal Camp where people gave him a rousing reception. He also convened a public darbar there.
