| Rural area at priority: CM | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb, 5: The Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has said that the development of rural backward and far-flung areas would receive priority attention of his Government in the development process. The State and the District plans would focus on the integrated and large scale development of these areas, he said adding that economic betterment of the people living in far-off areas could be assured through massive development activities in these areas. The Chief Minister was interacting with several deputations from Banihal, Kastigarh, Jajjar Kotli, Khansahib and other areas who called on him here on Wednesday evening to present the memoranda of demands. The Chief Minister said that equitable development of all the regions and the areas of the State was corner pillar of the policy planning of his Government. "Endeavours will be made to bridge the gap between developed and underdeveloped areas", he said. A deputation from Khansahib, Kashmir led by Mr. Tariq Mohi-ud-Din presented a list of demands to the Chief Minister regarding the development of this constituency. A deputation from Kastigarh, Ramban led by former MLA, Dr. Chaman Lal apprised the Chief Minister of the problems of Kastigarh and Ramban areas. They demanded a degree college, food store, tehsil, polytechnic and ITI in the Ramban constituency and pleaded for construction of roads under PMGSY in the area. A deputation from Banihal led by Mr. Sajjad Shaheen demanded improvement in water supply system in Banihal constituency. They pleaded for upgradation of basic amenities in the Pogal-Paristan and other far-flung areas. They demanded a mini-hydel project in the area and a road link between Digdol to Tatapani. They also pleaded for upgradation of seed farm and schemes for the development of Gujjar community in the area. Another deputation comprising about a hundred prominent leaders of Gujjar and Bakerwal community led by Ch. Haroon Rashid congratulated Mr. Omar Abdullah for taking over as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. They presented a memorandum of demands regarding welfare and economic development of the Gujjar and Bakerwal community. Another deputation of Cement Manufacturing Association, Kashmir led by Mr. Shafi Tramboo presented a list of demands to the Chief Minister relating to the growth and development of this industry in the State. The Chief Minister gave patient hearing to the deputations and assured them that their demands would be looked into and considered sympathetically.
