Agniveer Laxman's supreme sacrifice saluted, to inspire future generations: Raman Suri
10/23/2023 10:23:13 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 23: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir Executive Member Raman Suri paid his respects to the "supreme sacrifice" made by Agniveer (Operator) Gawate Akshay Laxman while serving in the highest battlefield in the world, Siachen. Laxman's dedication and sacrifice will be remembered for generations, and it will serve as an inspiration for others to join the Indian Armed Forces and serve their nation.
Raman Suri expressed his condolences and solidarity with the family of Agniveer Laxman, who gave his life to protect India's borders near the Indo-Pak Line of Control. Laxman's sacrifice occurred in the challenging terrains of Siachen.
Suri mentioned that the entire nation owes a debt of gratitude to Agniveer Laxman, who bravely served in one of the world's most treacherous locations. Laxman will be remembered as the first Agniveer who made the ultimate sacrifice while on duty in Siachen. He also highlighted the success of the Agniveer scheme, launched by the Union Government in June 2022, which aims to provide opportunities for young individuals to serve the nation. Despite criticism from opposition leaders, thousands of aspiring youth have joined the Indian Army, demonstrating their dedication and commitment to the nation.
In response to conflicting messages on social media regarding financial assistance to the deceased Agniveer Laxman's family, Raman Suri clarified that the Indian Army will fulfill the emoluments and benefits as per the relevant terms and conditions of service for the soldier. These provisions are substantial and are designed to ensure that the family can sustain itself independently without relying on external assistance.
As per the terms of engagement for Agniveers, the emoluments for a deceased Battle Casualty will include:
Rs 48 lakhs as Non-Contributory Insurance sum
Seva Nidhi contributed by the Agniveer (30%) with equal matching contribution by the Government and interest
Ex-gratia of Rs 44 lakhs
Pay for the balance tenure from the date of death till completion of four years (more than Rs 13 lakhs in this case)
A sum of Rs 8 lakhs as a contribution from the Armed Forces Battle Casualty Fund
Rs 30,000 from AWWA as immediate financial assistance
Raman Suri urged individuals to refrain from spreading false information and instead encourage young people to serve the nation as soldiers, a highly honorable duty. He assured that Agniveer Gawate Akshay Laxman's family, who hailed from Maharashtra, would also receive the specified emoluments. Laxman's service in the Siachen Glacier, located at a height of around 20,000 feet in the Karakoram range, is a shining example of sacrifice. Siachen is known as the highest militarized zone in the world, where soldiers must contend with extreme cold, frostbites, and high winds.
The Karakoram range, located in the Himalayas, spans the borders of India, Pakistan, China, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. Laxman was serving in the Siachen Glacier within this challenging terrain after completing his training.
