Tawi trekkers J&K to promote lesser frequented beauty spots with winter treks
10/23/2023 10:28:13 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 23: Tawi Trekkers J&K, the pioneering trekking club of Jammu, is set to kick off its winter activities with a one-day trek from Kattal Batal (Nagrota) to Aitham (7 kilometers short of Suruinsar) via Bhed Devta. The club is committed to promoting heritage sites and lesser-visited beauty spots in the Jammu region through a series of short treks.
The first batch of approximately 135 students from Oriental Academy Senior Secondary School, Jammu, will embark on this trek on October 29, 2023. This will be followed by a second batch of 135 students from St. Xavier Convent Senior Secondary School, Jammu, and so on. The club has set a target of 2000 participants in one-day treks during the winter season, with the goal of achieving this target by the end of December 2023. These activities will continue through the end of February 2024.
Shilpa Charak, an international sport climber and mountaineer, will lead the first group, while Sumit Khajuria, Sushil Singh, Sonam Sidharth, and Shashi Kant will lead the other groups. Each group will be accompanied by at least two other club members.
Tawi Trekkers J&K has been exploring the possibility of linking several locations, including Purmandal, Mohoregarh, Bhupnergarh, Dhergarh, Mansar, Surinsar, and Pahair Devta, to create an adventure, heritage, and pilgrimage circuit. The club has been regularly conducting reconnaissance of these areas to develop them into a winter hub for soft adventure activities, including adventure camps, picnics, and short heritage treks.
The club's efforts are already yielding positive results, as in 2022 alone, approximately 600 boys and girls participated in the one-day treks organized by the club. These treks covered routes from Mohore Garh to Mansar, Dher Garh to Mansar, Bhupnergarh to Mansar, Kattal Batal to Aitham via Bhed Devta, and to Devi Pindian near Panthal in the Reasi District.
