| Measures for restoration of water bodies in Udhampur | | | Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, FEBRUARY 06
To prepare action plan for repair, restoration and recharge of water bodies in the district Udhampur existing on government land, Gram Panchyats, Municipal limits, registered societies in agriculture and allied sectors, the District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Mr. Ajay Khajuria convened a meeting of District Officers of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Agriculture, Horticulture, Forests and Rural Development Departments, last evening.
The Superintending Engineer, Hydraulic Circle, Udhampur,, Verinder Badyal, Chief Agriculture Officer, Chief Horticulture Officer, Executive Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control, Udhampur and representatives of RDD, Soil Conservation and Forests attended the meeting.
Exhorting upon the officers, the DDC said that efforts be made to accord priority to those water bodies where water was available throughout the year while preparing first phase action plan in a coordinated manner to enhance irrigation potential for boosting agriculture and horticulture produce in the district. This would also help in saving the soil from erosion besides creating environmental benefits through improved water use efficiency.
To ensure rain water harvesting on roof top in town limits, DDC impressed upon the officers of Public Health Engineering to identify households and prepare action plan of water harvesting at the earliest. The Agriculture Department was asked to conduct survey and prepare action plan of roof top water harvesting in rural areas. Likewise, Rural Development Department would prepare plan of repairing, renovating besides constructing khuls, wells , bowlies etc.
The DDC directed Irrigation and Flood Control Department to prepare perspective plan of constructing check-dams and khuls under their control and Forest Department to ensure massive plantation besides constructing check walls in forest areas of the district.
