Deputy Commissioner Inaugurates Handicrafts Exhibition and Sale in Samba

Samba, Oct 25: A Mini Exhibition cum Sale of handicrafts, organized under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, kicked off in Samba district, Jammu and Kashmir. The event was inaugurated by Shri Abhishek Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Samba, at Dina Nath Memorial Hall (Mahajan Hall). This marketing event has been facilitated by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) and the Handicrafts Service Centre in Jammu.
During the inauguration, Mr. Sharma visited each stall at the event and engaged with stall owners. He offered valuable suggestions on how the production of handicraft products could be enhanced for greater durability and higher sales. He urged people to visit the exhibition and purchase products, especially during the ongoing festive season, to support local artisans and enable them to earn more. He emphasized that events like these will boost the 'Make in India' and 'Local for Vocal' initiatives of the government.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Senior Superintendent of Police, Samba, Shri Benam Tosh, Joint Director, PIB, Jammu, Shri Ghulam Abbas, and Media and Communication Officer, PIB, Jammu, Shri Zakir Nazeer Malik.
According to the Handicrafts Service Centre in Jammu, 25 artisans and weavers from various parts of the Jammu province will showcase their products for sale and demonstration during this week-long event, which will conclude on October 31, 2023.
The exhibition, organized for the first time in Samba district, will display handicraft and handloom products from various crafts of the region, including Hand block Printing, Bamboo craft, Grass reef, jute craft, soft toys, ceramic work, embroidery, and crochet craft.
The main objective of this Mini Exhibition cum Sale is to provide a marketing platform for artisans in unexplored and uncovered districts of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It not only promotes the rich cultural heritage of the region but also supports local artisans by offering a wider market for their products.
