| DGP promote 17 more cops for bravery | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, FEBRUARY 06: Director General of Police (DGP), Mr. Kuldeep Khoda today issued another order of out-of-turn promotion in favour of 17 police personnel for their bravery while fighting militancy in the State. He also lauded the role of officers and jawans of the force in maintaining unceasing pressure on the anti-national elements in the State. While issuing the orders, Mr. Khoda said the recognition of bravery is vital in boosting the morale of the jawans, adding that all those police personnel who have shown exemplary courage in dealing with the scourge of militancy will be rewarded and honoured. The personnel honoured are from district Baramulla, Kupwara and Handwara in North Kashmir, and in the district of Pulwama and Awantipora in South Kashmir. Elaborating, the DGP said that 13 constables have been given one rank promotion and promoted as Selections Grade Constables (Sgcts) while as four Selection Grade Constables have been promoted as Head Constables. Giving details of, about the jawans honoured in the second phase, the DGP said that they have been fighting militants in tough and extremely hostile conditions. He said they have been selected for putting their life at stake during anti-militancy operations in the Valley. These personnel have worked against militancy in their jurisdiction and saved lives and property of a number of people during the past few years. As many as 398 militants, including top self-styled commanders of various outfits, were eliminated and 107 other militants captured, besides huge cache of arms and ammunition recovered from the encounter sites during these operations by the jawans. Mr. Khoda said these militants were involved in many cases of killing and other militancy-related incidents in these districts. The DGP said for the first time in two decades of militancy in the State, the number of incidents has gone down below four-digit figure in 2008. He said last year witnessed a phenomenal drop of 40 per cent in terrorist-incidents compared to 2007, which is again an all time high achieved during the last 20 years. Mr. Khoda said all ranks in the force are determined to tackle the menace of militancy across the State, adding that the force is committed to work with greater zeal and courage to thwart the evil designs of the forces inimical to the country.
