GDC Kathua Celebrates UT Foundation Day 2023 with Enthusiasm and Talent

Kathua, Oct 28: The Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua celebrated the Union Territory (UT) Foundation Day of Jammu & Kashmir with great fervor and enthusiasm. This event aimed to highlight the positive changes that have taken place in the region since its transition to a Union Territory four years ago. The Science Club of GDC Kathua, under the guidance of College Principal Prof. Seema Mir and with the support of the Higher Education Department, organized College and District-level activities to mark this significant occasion.
The District-level event, held on the 28th of October, 2023, commenced with the ceremonial lighting of lamps by distinguished guests, including Prof. Raj Kiran I/C Principal, Prof. Jaswinder Singh, IQAC Coordinator, and Dr. Pankaj Gupta, the Organizing Secretary, among others. A range of activities were organized to foster a sense of pride and awareness, with the theme “Badalta Jammu Kashmir: Aman aur Taraqqi ki Nayi Tasveer” (Changing Jammu & Kashmir: A New Picture of Peace and Progress). Students from various colleges across the Kathua district, including GCW Kathua, GDC Marheen, GLDM DC Hiranagar, GDC Ramkote, GDC Billawar, GDC Basohli, and GDC Mahanpur, participated with immense zeal. Principal Prof. Seema Mir highlighted the transformative changes that have occurred since Jammu and Kashmir’s transition to a Union Territory. She commended the UT administration’s comprehensive reforms and social programs that have significantly improved services and infrastructure in the region. Prof. Mir also congratulated the winners of the various activities.
Prof. Rakesh Singh, the Convener of the Science Club, encouraged participants to use this platform to express their perspectives on the changes they have witnessed. He emphasized the people-centric approach and the importance of involving the public in the wave of progress and development.
The event’s Chief Guest, Prof. Raj Kiran Sharma, praised the efforts of the organizing team in putting together this District-level event. She highlighted the development initiatives undertaken in the college and the Union Territory over the past four years, urging students to actively participate in activities that promote patriotism.
In the Essay Writing Competition, Ragni Devi of GDC Kathua secured the first position, with Konika of GDC Marheen and Riya of GDC Hiranagar taking the second and third positions, respectively. Painting, Photography, and Videography competitions also witnessed outstanding performances from talented students.
The valedictory ceremony saw the distribution of trophies to the winners by the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, and jury members. The entire event was efficiently conducted by NSS Volunteers Alisha and Ananya.
Dr. Pankaj Gupta, the Organizing Secretary, expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, attendees, participants, and contributors for making the event a resounding success.
This remarkable celebration of Jammu & Kashmir’s Union Territory Foundation Day showcased the region’s progress and provided a platform for students to express their vision for a brighter future. It was made possible through the concerted efforts of the college administration, faculty, and dedicated organizing team members.
