AKHNOOR, Oct 28: Government Degree College in Akhnoor recently organized a one-day technology demonstration program titled “Mulberry Silk Reeling and Weaving.” The event aimed to raise awareness about the development of post-cocoon technology and its significance in the silk industry.
Dr. Romilla Malla Bhat, Principal of the college, extended a warm welcome to the esteemed guests, Sh. N. S. Gahlot, Scientist-D/Zonal Officer, and Sh. Highlighting the event’s importance, Sh. N. S. Gahlot emphasized the need for India to become self-sufficient in silk production. He urged the students to play an active role in connecting the silk industry with handloom weavers and artisans and developing value-added products. The students were also educated on silk yarn blends, such as silk-wool and silk-cotton, as they observed the weaving process on handlooms.
The event was made possible with the support of the Silk Technical Service Center Jammu, and their technical teams have committed to providing ongoing assistance to the college in collaboration with the Additional Director of the Sericulture Development Department, Government of Jammu and Kashmir.
