Kathua police arrests two drug peddlers

Kathua, Oct 28: The Kathua Police, in its unwavering commitment to combat the drug menace in society, successfully apprehended two individuals and seized approximately 390.7 grams of charas-like narcotics in the jurisdictional area of PP Industrial Estates Kathua. The operation resulted in the arrest of two drug peddlers and the confiscation of the narcotics and a motorbike.
On October 27, 2023, the Kathua Police received information from a reliable source regarding two individuals, namely Nitin Mangotra, son of Dharam Paul, residing at Ward No. 16 Shiva Nagar, Kathua, and Ayush Sharma, son of Ashwani Kumar, residing at Ward No. 8, Kathua.
It was reported that these individuals were engaged in narcotics smuggling in the PP Industrial Estates Kathua area.
Acting swiftly on this information, a police team from PP Industrial Estates Kathua, led by PSI Mohd. Towheed Khan, in charge of PP Hatli, carried out a naka/checking operation under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Kathua, Sh. Manjeet Singh, and Insp. Sudhir Sadhotra, SHO PS Kathua. During the operation in the Berian Pattan area near the Canal, the police team noticed the suspicious movements of the two individuals, who were riding a motorbike with registration number PB08CW-6939.
A physical search of the individuals led to the discovery of approximately 210.6 grams of charas-like narcotics in the illegal possession of Nitin Mangotra and approximately 180.1 grams of charas-like narcotics in the possession of Ayush Sharma, totaling approximately 390.7 grams of charas-like narcotics seized from their possession. The recovered narcotics substances, along with the motorcycle, were confiscated, and the two individuals were subsequently arrested. A case under FIR No. 457/2023 was registered at P/S Kathua, invoking sections 8/20/29 of the NDPS Act. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
