SKPA concludes "Juvenile Justice" training course for J&K police officers

UDHAMPUR, Oct 28: A three-day training course on "Juvenile Justice" concluded today at the Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA). The program was attended by officers of the rank of Sub-Inspectors to Deputy Superintendents of Police (SI to Dy.SP) from the Jammu & Kashmir Police.
The primary objective of this course was to sensitize police officers to the various legal provisions aimed at safeguarding the rights of children and ensuring their proper care, especially when their freedom is restricted. The training program also aimed to acquaint the participants with the existing legal framework related to child rights in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir in comparison to national standards. Various improved methods of handling juvenile cases were discussed during the training.
A valediction function was held at the academy, with Rajinder Kumar Gupta, IPS, SSP, Dy. Director (Indoor), serving as the chief guest. During his address, Sh. Gupta emphasized the importance of understanding the conceptual background of child rights and the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act. He expressed confidence that the knowledge gained during this course would significantly assist the participating officers in handling juvenile cases while ensuring that the rights of children are protected in both letter and spirit.
Eminent speakers, including Shalini Sharma, a member of the Juvenile Justice Board in Jammu, Dr. Ankita Choudhary, a Child Psychologist from the Department of Pediatrics at GMC Doda, Yasman, a member of the Juvenile Justice Board in Udhampur, and Rahul Raja Sharma, Program Manager of J&K NGOs, along with faculty members of SKPA, delivered lectures and shared their valuable experiences with the participants.
The coordination of the course was overseen by Shri Sukhvir Singh, Dy.SP, AD (Administration) at SKPA, with assistance from Nasser Mehmood Naik, Inspector at SKPA Udhampur. The course aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of police officers in dealing with juvenile cases and upholding the rights of children within the legal framework.
