Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 29: The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL) organized a Kathak dance recital by renowned artists Manju Wazir and Dr. Priya Dutta at Abhinav Theatre in Jammu. Kathak is one of the eight major forms of Indian classical dance, originating from Uttar Pradesh and traditionally attributed to traveling bards known as Kathakars or storytellers.
Shri Bharat Singh, Secretary of JKAACL, welcomed the guests and artists, stating that there was a long-standing demand for classical-based programs in Jammu. He expressed confidence that the audience would be enthralled by the classical dance presentations and assured that the Academy would continue organizing such programs in the future.
The program began with presentations by Manju Wazir, a renowned Kathak dancer from Jammu and Kashmir. She holds a Visharad in Kathak from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal and has completed a post-graduate diploma in Kathak dance from Katha Kendra, New Delhi. The audience was treated to performances that included Shiv Vandana, Thumri Malika, and a fusion of Kathak on Dogri songs. The performances were highly appreciated by the audience.
Dr. Priya Dutta and her group also presented various Kathak dance performances. Dr. Priya Dutta, a Kathak dancer, has been associated with the Institute of Music and Fine Arts for nineteen years and runs her academy, Nrityanjali Classical Dance Academy, to promote Kathak.
