Natrang theatre presents ‘Sarkari Daftar Ka Ek Din’ highlighting Govt office realities

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 29: In its weekly theatre series, Natrang presented ‘Sarkari Daftar Ka Ek Din’ (A Day at the Government Office), a Hindi play that shed light on the inner workings of a government office. The performance took place at the Studio Theatre in Kachi Chawni, Jammu, as part of Natrang’s Sunday Theatre.
The play, written by Laxmikant Vaishnav and directed by Neeraj Kant, portrayed the real-life scenarios and intricacies of a government office in a thought-provoking and clever manner.
The narrative unfolds within the confines of a government office, where the employees are depicted working in their own unique styles. With job security and little accountability, punctuality is disregarded, and individuals often bend the rules to suit their personal convenience. The play highlighted prevalent issues such as bureaucracy, nepotism, favoritism, corruption, absenteeism, and sycophancy, which are commonly associated with government offices.
At the heart of the story is a peon, who, thanks to his job security and the secrets he holds about his colleagues, wields significant power. Even the office boss dare not cross him, as he knows how to exploit their vulnerabilities for his own gain. Each employee in the office has their weaknesses exploited by others, all in pursuit of personal agendas.
The one exception to this rule is an official who is a relative of a minister. His fearless approach, backed by his influential connections, sets him apart from the rest. Meanwhile, the Head of the Department, responsible for maintaining the integrity and punctuality of the office, avoids his duties and remains absent, engaging in personal pursuits.
However, just as it appears that the arrival of a vigilant officer could change the dynamics of the office, the play takes a surreal twist. The vigilant officer’s surprise raid and suspension orders for absent employees are revealed to be nothing more than a dream. The status quo in the government office remains unchanged.
The play featured Natrang’s young artists, including Sunny Mujoo, Vishal Sharma, Abhimanyu Choudhary, Sumit Singh Bandaral, Mehak Chib, Anand Verma, and Munish. The lighting was expertly managed by Neeraj Kant, and the play’s music was composed by Kushal Bhat. The production was coordinated by Mohd. Yaseen.
‘Sarkari Daftar Ka Ek Din’ offered a satirical and insightful glimpse into the challenges and inefficiencies often associated with government offices, leaving the audience with much to contemplate.
