ASCOMS hosts divisional round of 36th IAP quiz for undergraduates

Jammu, Oct 30: The Department of Paediatrics at Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences & Hospital (ASCOMS) in Sidhra, Jammu, in collaboration with the Indian Academy of Paediatrics, conducted the Divisional Round of the 36th IAP Quiz on October 28, 2023. The event was organized under the guidance of Dr. Ravinder K. Gupta, Professor & HOD, Paediatrics, and it brought together students from various medical colleges in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
The competition was held in the College Auditorium, and it witnessed fierce participation from medical students. In an exciting showdown, the team of Mahima Bhat and Sonika Manhas from ASCOMS & Hospital emerged as the winners, showcasing their exceptional knowledge. The runners-up were Mihika Gupta and Mudit Sharma, also from ASCOMS. Khair Un Nissa and Kushal Kumar Bargath from GMC, Rajouri secured the 3rd position, while teams from GMC, Jammu, comprising Saima Hymera & Priya Sathu and Aagosh Bhat & Dipender Bhat, secured the 4th and 5th positions, respectively.
Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, the Principal/Dean of Government Medical College, Jammu, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event was attended by several distinguished personalities, including D.K. Batra, Secretary of ASCOMS, Dr. Pavan Malhotra, Director Principal of ASCOMS, Dr. Ashok Gupta, Former Professor & HOD, Paediatrics at SMGS Hospital, and Dr. G.S. Saini, Professor & HOD, Paediatrics at SMGS Hospital and State President of IAP. They all emphasized the significance of academic activities in the undergraduate curriculum and commended the efforts of the organizers in hosting a successful event. Dr. Upendra S. Kinjawadekar, National President of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics, addressed the gathering virtually and highlighted the importance of such quizzes while applauding ASCOMS & Hospital for organizing academic activities for undergraduates. Dr. Pavan Malhotra, Director Principal of ASCOMS, lauded the achievements of the Paediatrics department and particularly praised Dr. Ravinder K. Gupta, who initiated his journey in Paediatrics and was the first to start the Paediatric Quiz organized by IAP back in 1988. Dr. Ravinder K. Gupta, the Quiz Master and Professor & Head of Paediatrics, explained the rules and regulations of the quiz to the participants. He was assisted by local quiz master Dr. Sushil Sharma, along with Dr. Vikas Mahajan and Dr. Manoj Sharma.
D.K. Batra, Secretary of ASCOMS, honored Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, the Chief Guest, with a memento, expressing gratitude for his presence. The participants were also felicitated by the Chief Guest, making the event a memorable and insightful experience for all involved.
