| BJP in fix over LS nominee | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 6- The leadership of the state unit of the BJP is divided over the names of party candidates who could be fielded in the ensuing Lok Sabha election from Jammu-Pooch constituency. While one section favours Chander Mohan Sharma, the other wants a rich businessman to get the party mandate on the plea that the businessman could provide much needed financial help for the party. Those who favour Chander Mohan Sharma argue that a Brahmin candidate has better chances for victory from Jammu-Poonch constituency than a non-Brahmin. In this connection they cite the success Madan Lal Sharma achieved when he won this Lok Sabha seat in 2004 with a comfortable majority. They say, besides Madan Lal Sharma, Vaid Vishnu Dutt and Mangat Ram Sharma, being Brahmins, had bagged this Lok Sabha seat. As far as the Congress is concerned Madan Lal Sharma is to be repeated. But the Congress is yet undecided over its candidate for Kathua-Doda constituency as one section in the Congress is not in favour of Lal Singh getting the party mandate after he lost Kathua Assembly seat miserably. But reports said that Lal Singh has threatened to contest the seat either as an independent candidate or a nominee of an important political party. Initially Dr Nirmal Singh had been keen to contest the Jammu Lok Sabha seat as in the previous election he was first runner up but since he lost the Gandhi Nagar assembly seat he is not being considered for the Lok Sabha seat. But Nirmal Singh has a lobby in the party high command and he may try to get the party nomination. While the Congress will contest both the seats in the Jammu region it may leave two, out of three seats in the valley, for the National Conference. However, the NC wants to field party candidates in all the three constituencies in the Valley on the basis of its better performance in the Assembly election.
