| BJP demands judicial probe into execution of Baglihar project | | Demands compensation for affected, airlifting of stranded people | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 7- State BJP General Secretary Bali Bhagat has demanded judicial probe by a sitting Supreme Court Judge to enquire into all aspects of survey, sanction, allotment of contract and execution of Baglihar Hydro-Electric Project which has proved to be a disaster for people of the area, ecology environment and even the economy of Jammu and Kashmir. Expressing his serious concern over the sinking of a long stretch of Batote-Kishtwar National Highway near Assar, Bali Bhagat said that a large number of population situated on both banks of river Chenab along the project dam, their agricultural land and houses have come in the sinking area. He demanded that a stringent action should be taken against all these authorities who remained associated from time to time with sanctioning of this project, revising cost estimates and extending completion dates for reasons best known to them. The BJP leader demanded that joint team of experts and officers of various departments should be rushed to area for working out the details of the damage caused due to the sinking of land. He also demanded grant of full compensation as per the present market rate to the people for their houses, vegetables growing agriculture land, orchard and other property. Arrangements also made be forthwith for rehabilitation of the affected population at a safer place, wherever required. He said that he is also is touch will people of the area for filing a PIL in this regard. Bali Bhagat asked the NC-Congress coalition government to ensure that there is no shortage of medicines, ration and other essential commodities in Kishtwar and Doda districts due to blockade of the highway and air force helicopters be pressed into service to airlift the supplies and patients. He also suggested for operating two helicopters to trans-ship the stranded passengers.
