| JMCC demands adequate development of Muslim areas of Jammu | | Welcomes NC-Congress coalition government | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 0- Welcoming the NC-Congress alliance government, the Jammu Muslim Coordination Committee has expressed the hope that the present government will come up to the expectations of the people particularly the Muslim community of Jammu region. In a meeting chaired by its Convenor Prof Zahirudin, the JMCC considered number of issues pertaining to the Muslim community living in Jammu region. The meeting, besides others, was attended by Ch Abdul Hamid, B A Rafiqui, A S Rather, Ashiq Hussian Khan, Abdul Aziz Kurashi, Akther Ali of Billawar Kathua, Ch Zyafat Ali (Udhampur), Bashir Malik and Muhammad Ishaq. The meeting welcomed the newly formed government and said that the people of the state particularly Muslim community of Jammu region expects a lot from the young chief minister and hoped that the long pending issues of the masses and Muslim community would be addressed adequately. Asking state government to ensure equitable development of Muslim areas which have been so far been neglected, members of JMCC also demanded adequate facilities for the people, besides ensuring that the wards of the weaker sections of the Muslim communities get scholarships and financial assistance so that they can compete with other sections. The members also demand representation in various forums of the government particularly in Upper House, besides proper share in various cadres of the state administration so far as employment and promotions are concerned. They demanded due share for the Muslims according to population ratio. ‘The Coordination Committee feels concerned about the plight of Gujjar, Bakerwal, and Julla community of the Jammu Muslims particularly those who suffered heavy losses during the recent land row agitation; a hand out said. The members reminded the promises made by the government to these people at various levels and said that no relief has been given to these community members so far. The JMCC asked the government to expedite the matter and announce special rehabilitation program for these people who have suffered losses. They also impressed upon the government to give proper place to Urdu language which is an official language of the state and make Urdu compulsory for seeking employment and set up an Urdu Academy in the state.
