Early Times Report
jammu, Nov 3: Many eyebrows were raised as the convenor of the Peoples' Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PADG) and former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sending humanitarian assistance to civilians in the Gaza Strip.
Although a meeting of the PAGD was called to impress upon the Union Government to change its stand in the United Nations on the issue of the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Dr. Farooq Abdullah seized this opportunity to hail the Prime Minister in the presence of other leaders of PAGD namely former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and CPM leader M Y Tarigami.
"We thanked the Prime Minister for sending humanitarian assistance to civilians in the Gaza Strip", Farooq Abdullah said, adding, "It is unfortunate that our government abstained from voting"
Farooq slammed the Centre after India abstained from voting at the UN General Assembly on a resolution drafted by Arab states calling for an immediate truce between Israel and Hamas and demanding aid access to the Gaza Strip.
"It is really shocking and ashamed that our country has abstained from voting for a ceasefire in Gaza," former Chief Minister said.
"Our county was founded on the principles of non-violence and truth; principles for which our freedom fighters laid down their lives. These principles form the basis of the Constitution that defines our nationhood. They represent the moral courage of India that guides its actions as a member of the international community," he said.
