GMC Anantnag hosts organ donation awareness program with SOTTO

ANANTNAG, Nov 4: The Jammu and Kashmir State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) organized an Awareness Program at GMC Anantnag, aimed at spreading awareness about organ donation. The event was conducted in collaboration with the Department of General Surgery at GMC. Prof Dr Anjum Farhana, the Principal of GMC Anantnag, presided over the program.
The Head of the Department of Surgery, Prof Dr Mumtaz-ud-Din, extended a warm welcome to the SOTTO team. Dr. Elias Sharma, the Head of Urology at GMC Jammu and the Nodal Officer of SOTTO J&K, delivered a lecture on Human Organ Donation and Transplantation. During his presentation, he dispelled various myths associated with organ donation, shedding light on the importance of this life-saving act.
Dr. Sanjeev Puri, the Joint Director of SOTTO J&K, provided a concise overview of the National Organ Transplant Programme (NOTP) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. He also encouraged the audience to participate in the Organ Donation Pledge Drive under Ayushman Bhav, fostering a culture of voluntary organ donation.
Irfan Ahmed, the Transplant Coordinator at SOTTO, explained the sequence of events involved in cadaveric organ donation, offering a clear understanding of the process.
The coordination of this event was spearheaded by Dr. Khalid Bashir, Associate Professor of General Surgery at GMC Anantnag. The program served as an essential platform to educate faculty, students, and paramedical staff about the significance of organ donation, dispelling misconceptions and promoting the noble act of saving lives through organ transplantation.
