Early Times Report
LEH, Nov 4: E. Srinivas, Joint Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, led a two-day capacity-building and training event in Leh on November 3rd and 4th, 2023. The event centered on the regional logistics needs of the Ladakh region and highlighted the pivotal role of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan initiative.
The event included individual interactions with approximately 25 officers representing various departments and the Project Management Unit team of the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh. E. Srinivas emphasized the remarkable progress made in the implementation of the PM GatiShakti initiative over the past two years. He also highlighted the achievements of various infrastructure and social sector Ministries and States/UTs in aligning with the PM GatiShakti goals.
The PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP) is a revolutionary strategy designed to promote comprehensive and interconnected planning among relevant Ministries and Departments. It aims to enhance multimodal transportation efficiency and address crucial infrastructure deficiencies to ensure the uninterrupted movement of people and goods. Special emphasis is placed on reducing interruptions and ensuring on-schedule project completion.
During the capacity-building and training event, several key accomplishments of PM GatiShakti were showcased. Notably, the initiative played a crucial role in identifying 156 infrastructure gaps affecting critical sectors such as Coal, Steel, and Ports. To underscore its significance, the government allocated a substantial Rs 75,000 crores for 100 critical infrastructure projects in the Union Budget for 2023-24, as stated by E. Srinivas.
Other achievements included the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways planning over 890 kilometers of roads, reducing the time required for Detailed Project Report (DPR) preparation. The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas streamlined pipeline planning, reducing report generation time to just 24 hours. A significant project approved for the UT of Ladakh is the Green Energy Corridor for Inter-State Transmission System for a 13 GW Renewable Energy Project, connecting Leh (Ladakh) to Kaithal (Haryana) through PM GatiShakti NMP.
Moreover, PM GatiShakti's impact has extended beyond India's borders, attracting global interest on international platforms such as G20 and B20, fostering engagement with stakeholders worldwide. The initiative's comprehensive and integrated approach to infrastructure development is seen as a model for sustainable progress.
