Training program on mushroom cultivation for Anganwadi workers held at SKUAST

JAMMU, Nov 5: A two-day hands-on training and awareness program on mushroom cultivation took place at the Mushroom Unit, Division of Plant Pathology, SKUAST-J (Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu) under the guidance of the Directorate of Research, SKUAST-J. The program was specially organized for the anganwadi workers of Block Satwari. The primary objective was to create awareness among rural communities about the benefits of including mushrooms in their daily diet and how mushroom cultivation can contribute to livelihood security.
During the training, the anganwadi workers received information about various types of mushrooms that can be successfully cultivated in the Jammu region. They were also provided hands-on training in the cultivation of oyster mushrooms. The program included lectures and practical sessions on substrate preparation and cultivation techniques for oyster mushrooms. Participants were made aware of the technical challenges they might encounter during mushroom cultivation.
The training program received guidance from Dr. B.N. Tripathi, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu, and Dr. R.K. Samnotra, the Director of Research at SKUAST-Jammu. Dr. Amrish Vaid, Professor and Head of the Division of Plant Pathology, along with Dr. Sachin Gupta, Professor, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, and Sh. Varun Dubey, Technical Officers, delivered detailed lectures and conducted practical sessions for the participants. The coordination of the program was managed by Dr. Sachin Gupta, Professor, and Incharge of the Mushroom Unit at SKUAST-Jammu, in collaboration with Sh. Sachin Sharma, CDPO Satwari.
The program received an enthusiastic response from the participants, who pledged to share the knowledge they gained with the broader community, highlighting the potential benefits of mushroom cultivation. The training aimed to empower rural communities with skills and knowledge that can enhance their livelihood and nutrition.
