DM holds RTA meeting, calls for strict action against violators of traffic rules

JAMMU, Nov 6: District Magistrate, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, today chaired a meeting of the Regional Transport Authority to discuss the issues related to public transport and traffic management in the district.
The meeting was attended by SSP Traffic, M. Fiesel Qureshi, Regional Transport Officer, ARTOs and other concerned officers.
The District Magistrate has given strict orders that the transport operators who are not plying on their allotted routes will face cancellation of their permits. They will also be ineligible for any future applications, he said.
The DM stressed on the need for strict adherence to the authorised public transport plying only on the peak passenger movement routes. He directed the enforcement departments to suspend the permits and licences of those found in violating the rules.
He also reviewed the status of applications for route permits and asked the concerned authorities to expedite the process and ensure transparency.
The DM passed strict directions against vehicle modification and said that all such vehicles are to be seized and the drivers' licences are to be suspended. He also suggested that FIRs be filed against serious offenders.
He further said the officers to issue notices to offenders impose penalties as per the law.
The DM also called for monitoring traffic and route violations on the outskirts of the Jammu city. He directed concerned departments to depute special teams for routine inspection and checking for overloading and other traffic rules violations. He underlined that passenger comfort and safety be kept as the priority.
The DM also laid emphasis on the enforcement drives and adherence to traffic rules by anyone driving on the district roads.
