JAMMU, Nov 6: Rattan Lal Gupta, the Provincial President of JKNC Jammu, strongly criticized the government's recent decision to ban employees in the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory from holding peaceful protests and demonstrations to voice their demands. He argued that this blanket restriction infringes on employees' rights to freedom of speech and the freedom to assemble, both of which are guaranteed by the country's constitution in a democratic society.
In a statement to the media, Gupta condemned this move as an attempt to suppress the reasonable voice of employees advocating for their genuine causes and to erode their democratic rights. He expressed concern that such tactics would backfire on the central government's proxy administration in J&K and would not help them gain the trust of the electorate, which has been repeatedly let down by the government in the past.
Gupta further emphasized that this order aims to create fear and harassment among employees, preventing them from speaking out against government wrongdoing. He pointed out that even Mahatma Gandhi advocated for the right to hold peaceful protests for just causes during his lifetime, and the government should reconsider its decision, as it goes against the principles of justice and democracy. |
