GDC Ramnagar's Science Club raises awareness on National Cancer Awareness Day

RAMNAGAR, Nov 7: In observance of National Cancer Awareness Day, an informative program on cancer was organized at Government Degree College Ramnagar. This event was conducted under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Bhavnaish Chand, the college's Principal, and was coordinated by Prof. Sumita Rao. The guest speaker for the event was Dr. Vijay Kumar, a Specialist Physician from Sub District Hospital Ramnagar.
The program, organized by the Science Club of the college, drew participation from approximately 80 students and staff members.
Dr. Vijay Kumar, in his address, highlighted the alarming rise of cancer as a significant health concern not only in India but also across the world. He noted the concerning trend of cancer cases appearing in younger age groups, a shift from the past. Dr. Kumar elaborated on various risk factors associated with cancer, including gender, age, urbanization, late marriages, delayed pregnancy, dietary habits, and obesity.
The specialist physician shared valuable information about the early signs and symptoms of cancer, its management, treatment options, medications, and the lifestyle changes necessary for the long-term management of the disease.
Dr. Bhavnaish Chand, in his formal address, commended and expressed appreciation for the efforts of the organizing committee in conducting such a meaningful event. He recognized the guest speaker's significant contributions to the field of medicine and clinical research, presenting him with a memento and a certificate as a token of gratitude.
Before introducing the guest speaker, Prof. Sumita Rao, the convener of the Science Club, briefly touched upon common knowledge about cancer. Prof. Ritika Mahajan, Head of the Department of Chemistry and a member of the Science Club, delivered a formal vote of thanks.
The event received technical assistance from Prof. Aditya Sharma and Prof. Sonam Gandotra, and logistical support was provided by Dr. Divya Puri, Dr. Rashmi Gupta, and Prof. Naveed Hassan Chowdhary. The occasion also witnessed the presence of Prof. Suresh Kumar Dogra, Head of the Department of Physics, as well as Dr. Kewal Kumar and Prof. Swarna Devi, who graced the event with their benevolent presence.
Government Degree College Ramnagar's Science Club's initiative not only raised awareness about cancer but also provided valuable insights and information to empower individuals in the fight against this devastating disease.
