Government Polytechnic hosts Inter-Department Carrom Tournament

JAMMU, Nov 8: Government Polytechnic Jammu added an exciting dimension to its annual calendar of sports activities by organizing an Inter-Department "Carrom Tournament." The event showcased the sporting spirit of the institution, with 85 students from ten different departments participating enthusiastically. The tournament took place from November 3rd to November 8th, 2023, culminating in a grand final.
The final match of the Inter-department competition was graced by Er. Arun Bangotra, Principal of Government Polytechnic Jammu, who presided as the chief guest. During the felicitation function, he shared valuable insights with the students, emphasizing the significance of planning and belief in achieving success in sports and life. He highlighted that meticulous planning and the execution of well-thought-out strategies are the keys to success, both on the sports field and in life. Furthermore, Er. Bangotra encouraged all Heads of Departments (HODs) to promote greater participation of female students in sports activities.
In the Boys' category, the first semifinal witnessed Rohit Parihar, a student of Mechanical Engineering, triumphing over Mohd. Idrees, representing the Civil Engineering department. The second semifinal featured Nakul Bhagat, an Electrical Engineering student, defeating Dheeraj Pande from the Travel and Tourism Department. In the final showdown of the Boys' category, Nakul Bhagat, representing Electrical Engineering, emerged victorious by beating Rohit Parihar from Mechanical Engineering.
In the Girls' category, the final match was contested between Nancy, a student of Architecture, and Deepika Sharma, an Information Technology student. In a closely contested battle, Nancy clinched the victory.
A heartfelt vote of thanks was extended to the chief guest and all the esteemed guests of honor who dedicated their valuable time to the occasion. Notable attendees at the closing ceremony included Er. Raj Kumar, Head of Mechanical Engineering, Er. Manjeet Singh, Head of Electrical Engineering, Er. Sukhdeep Singh, Head of Civil Engineering, Er. Sanjay Koul, Head of Computer Engineering, Er. Jasdeep Kour, Head of Instrumentation and Control Department, Er. Amit Gupta, Er. Akash Dasgotra, Snehjot Kour, Er. Vicky Sharma, and Ashok Verma.
The smooth and fair conduct of the matches was ensured by the vigilant supervision of Dheeraj Kumar (Lecturer, Travel & Tourism), Chamel Singh (Physical Education Master), Toshi Devi (Physical Education Teacher), and Rakesh Khullar (Institute Repairer).
Government Polytechnic Jammu's Inter-Department Carrom Tournament was a resounding success, fostering a competitive yet collegial spirit among the students and celebrating their talent and sportsmanship. It reflects the institution's commitment to holistic education and promoting extracurricular activities.
