Police thwart attempted rape by fake Colonel
11/14/2023 10:29:36 PM
Early Times Report
SAMBA, Nov 14: In a commendable operation led by Senior Superintendent of Police Samba, Benam Tosh, the police have arrested an imposter posing as an Army Colonel for attempting to commit rape on a young girl within the jurisdiction of Police Station Vijaypur.
The accused, identified as Sham Lal, hailing from Keso Manhasan tehsil Ramgarh district Samba, and residing in Shiv Nagar Vijaypur, was apprehended following a complaint filed under FIR No.160/2023. He faces charges under sections 376/511 and 419 of the Indian Penal Code.
According to the complaint, Lal deceitfully posed as an Army Colonel and lured a pair of young siblings-a 12th-grade girl and her 10th-grade brother-from Udhampur district to Vijaypur. Lal falsely promised their enrollment in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and subsequent recruitment into a paramilitary force. As part of his ruse, he even assessed their running stamina along Vijaypur-Ramgarh road. The situation took a dark turn when, under the cover of night, Lal attempted to assault the girl. Her brave resistance, loud outcry, and swift action led to her approaching the local Police Station, resulting in the immediate arrest of the accused. The police team, led by SHO Police Station Vijaypur Sandeep Charak, under the supervision of SDPO Vijaypur Rohit Kumar and Additional SP Samba Surinder Choudhary, played a pivotal role in apprehending the fake Army Colonel.
Senior Superintendent of Police Samba, Benam Tosh, has directed a relentless crackdown on criminal elements in the district. Over the past ten months, the Samba police have successfully arrested a total of 153 hardcore criminals. Stringent legal measures are being pursued against these individuals, underscoring the commitment of the police force to maintain law and order in the region.
