Special Judge CBI Bala Jyoti extends Lal Singh’s remand for 5 more days

Jammu, Nov 14: Special Judge CBI Bala Joyti today extended remand of former Minister and Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan Party (DSSP) Supremo Lal Singh for five more days in Money Laundering case.
The Special Judge after hearing Special Public Prosecutor Ashwani Khajuria for the ED observed that accused Chaudhary Lal Singh (aged 64 years) S/o Saran Singh, R/o H.No. 01, Ward No. 02, Kathua (UT of J&K) has been produced before me today on 14.11.2023 at 10.00 am through virtual mode under proper custody by IO Pardeep, Assistant Director, Directorate of Enforcement, Jammu.
The IO has prayed for ED remand of accused for a period of 7 days through virtual mode due to law and order apprehension and also keeping in view the previous conduct of accused in the Court.
The Court after perusal of the application and CD File transpires that accused was arrested on 07.11.2023 in case FIR No. RC0042020A0005 dated 12.09.2020 and ECIR bearing No. ECIR/JMSZO/04/2022 dated 31.03.2022 for offence under section 5(1 )(d) read with section 5(2) of J&K PC Act, Samvat 2006 (Pari Materia to sections 13(1)(d) read with 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988) and section 120-B of the Ranbir Penal Code 1989 (Pari Materia to section 120-B of Indian Penal Code, 1860). As per the Medical Certificate, accused is physically fit.
The Court further observed that since the accused was arrested on November 7, 2023 and investigation of the case is at initial stage, besides accused is involved in serious and non-bailable offence, he is remanded to ED (Directorate of Enforcement) custody for a period of 5 days only w.e.f.14.11.2023 to 18.11.2023 through virtual mode only in view of notification dated 15.11.2021 No. 1246 of 2021/RG issued by High Court keeping in view law and order situation as apprised by the Investigating Officer.
Accused has complained about his physical discomfort and requested for his proper medical checkup. He shall be subjected to regular medical examination under rules. He has been apprised of his right to engage an Advocate.
The accused shall be produced in the Court by the Investigating Officer after expiry of the ED remand period i.e. on 18.11.2023 through virtual mode only. Investigating officer present in the Court is directed to expedite the investigation.
