Gurjar Desh charitable trust commemorates “Janjatiya Gourav Divas” in Honor of Tribal Pride Day

Jammu, Nov 15: The Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust (GDCT), a non-governmental organization dedicated to the welfare of Tribals in Jammu and Kashmir for the past three decades, celebrated “Janjatiya Gourav Divas” (Tribal Pride Day) on November 15, 2023, at Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust, Jammu. Squadron Leader Anil Sehgal graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, with the Guest of Honour being Seema Sehgal. The event saw the participation of community members, trustees, media persons, and prominent personalities from various social organizations. Advocating for tribal upliftment, the celebration included a comprehensive program highlighting the aims and objectives of GDCT.
During the welcome address, General Secretary GDCT Mr. M.S. Chouhan paid tribute to Birsa Munda and outlined the organization’s mission for the welfare and upliftment of tribal communities. The event was a continuation of the late Dr. Masud Ahmed Choudhary’s legacy, aiming to inspire and encourage tribals to strive for success in their lives.
Jenab Bashir Ahmed Noon shared insights into the life struggle of Birsa Munda, born on November 15, 1875. Munda, a key figure in tribal rights activism, fought against the exploitative British Raj, ultimately sacrificing his life for the cause.
The proceedings included speeches by Chairman of the Trust, Advocate h Mohd Chowdhary, who emphasized the objectives of the Trust and encouraged youth to excel in education, media, and art & culture. The celebration also featured various cultural and educational presentations, shedding light on Gojri culture, education, health issues, and developmental schemes for tribals.
The Chief Guest praised GDCT’s role in promoting socio-economic development, education, and preserving the rich culture of tribals. He suggested measures for the improvement of the Gojri language and culture and emphasized the importance of providing proper health education to tribals. Individual mementos were presented to the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour for their meritorious contributions. The Vice Chairman, Mr. Hamid Choudhary, expressed gratitude to all participants, guests, media persons, and trustees for their valuable contributions to the success of the program.
The celebration concluded with a group photograph and the participants were treated to tea and snacks. The event served as a platform to highlight the achievements and challenges faced by the tribal community while fostering a sense of pride and unity.
