Early Times Report
SAMBA, Nov 17: Samba Police has secured a seven-day police remand for the sustained interrogation of a fake Army Colonel arrested for attempting to commit rape on a girl from Udhampur. The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Police Station Vijaypur.
The arrested individual, identified as Sham Lal, son of Shanker Dass, resident of Keso Manhasan, tehsil Ramgarh, district Samba, and currently at Shiv Nagar Vijaypur, impersonated an Army Colonel. He had deceived young siblings, a girl in the 12th class and her brother in the 10th class from Udhampur, by falsely assuring them of NCC enrollment and subsequent recruitment in the belt force. After checking their running stamina along Vijaypur-Ramgarh road, he attempted to rape the girl at midnight. The girl raised an alarm, approached the police station, and filed a complaint, leading to the registration of a case (FIR No. 160/2023 u/s 376 /511, 419 IPC) and the subsequent arrest of the accused.
Given the need for sustained interrogation to uncover further facts, the police sought and obtained a seven-day remand from the Additional Munsiff Court Samba. The interrogation is being conducted in a highly professional manner by a team of police officers, including SHO Police Station Vijaypur Sandeep Charak, PSI Sohail Munir, under the supervision of SDPO Vijaypur Rohit Kumar, and Additional SP Samba Surinder Choudhary.
Samba Police, under the directives of Senior Superintendent of Police Benam Tosh, is taking strong action against individuals involved in crimes against women, and all investigations are being expedited to ensure justice."
