DC chairs meeting to strengthen Road Safety Measures

POONCH, Nov 17: Deputy Commissioner, Yasin M. Choudhary, who also serves as the Chairman of the Road Safety Committee, convened a meeting with members of the District Road Safety Committee in Poonch to address the formulation and implementation of an effective traffic management plan.
The meeting was attended by ADC Poonch, Tahir Mustafa Malik, ACR Poonch, Zaheer Ahmed Kaifi besides other concerned officers.
The meeting encompassed a comprehensive discussion on various agenda points, highlighting key areas such as the installation of crash barriers, progress on Mughal Road construction, tackling overloading and illegal parking, organizing road safety awareness camps, enhancing ambulance facilities, identifying accident-prone areas and assessing the total number of vehicles in the district.
The DC emphasized the need for collective efforts to mitigate road accidents and urged the concerned officers to foster close interdepartmental coordination. This collaboration is necessary to minimize accidents and ensure the timely rehabilitation of accident victims.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed Naib Tehsildars, Tehsildars, Police, Traffic Police and ARTO office to establish checkpoints in their respective areas and enforce traffic regulations to curb violations effectively.
Further, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the concerned officers to focus on promoting road safety practices and encouraging compliance with traffic rules among the general public during intensive awareness and enforcement drives.
Deputy Commissioner directed the Executive Engineers of PWD and PMGSY to ensure proper upkeep of roads, including repairing potholes. By identifying accident-prone areas and implementing precautionary measures such as installing signboards and necessary concretizations, the aim is to minimize road accidents.
During the meeting, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, informed that 1000 young individuals have been trained in disaster management, with their presence ensured in every relevant location to provide assistance when needed.
The Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) were instructed to conduct meetings in their respective tehsils to review ongoing work, assess the installation of crash barriers, and evaluate the progress of PMGSY/PWD projects. Furthermore, they were tasked with conducting surveys to identify the causes of accidents and accident-prone areas, with the intention of submitting a comprehensive report.
In order to enhance emergency response, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to improve ambulance facilities in far-flung areas. This measure will ensure timely and efficient transportation of accident victims to medical facilities, thereby saving precious lives.
