Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 19: In a joint statement issued by the Kashmiri Displaced People Wing (KDPW) of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), leaders have called for the urgent rehabilitation of displaced people back to the Valley. Led by President Shri Sanjay Dhar, Chairman Shri Piaray Lal Pandita, and General Secretary Raj Kumar Ticku, the party emphasizes the need for a one-time settlement to address the challenges faced by those displaced after 1990 due to genocide and persecution by extremists. The leaders have urged the Government of India, the UT Government Administration, and stakeholders involved in the displacement to collaborate on formulating a comprehensive resettlement policy. Expressing dissatisfaction with the prolonged exile endured by the displaced community, the leaders highlight the failure of past and present governments to address their concerns adequately.
The KDPW DPAP leaders have appealed to the Human Rights Commission of India, the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, and the United Nations to intervene and address the plight of the displaced Hindu community. They draw attention to the harsh living conditions and challenges faced by the community, which has lived as refugees in its own state for over thirty-three years. The statement further emphasizes the impact on the community’s youth, cultural identity, and the loss of properties, including houses, temples, and shrines. The leaders stress that assurances made on political platforms have proven hollow, leading to the erosion of the community’s rights.
In a bid to garner support, the leaders call upon the Civil Society of the Valley’s Majority Community to pressurize the government for the repatriation of their exiled Kashmiri Hindu brethren. They also appeal for an increase in the survival stipend until a resettlement policy is worked out and propose the immediate formation of a panel of retired Supreme Court judges to frame recommendations for the survival and rehabilitation of the displaced Kashmiri community. As the displaced Kashmiri community seeks to restore its constitutional rights and return to its birthplace, the leaders express their determination to take their cause to the streets, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
