GDC Ramnagar champions mental health awareness

RAMNAGAR, Nov 20: Government Degree College Ramnagar took a significant step towards promoting mental health awareness by organizing a seminar on the theme "Importance of Mental Health." The event, conducted in collaboration with the Departments of Psychology and Chemistry, marked a valuable contribution to the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav for Constitution week celebrations. The seminar aimed to enlighten students about the pivotal role of a balanced diet in maintaining a healthy mind and body. Prof. Ritika Mahajan, HOD Chemistry, and convener of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, inaugurated the program by extending a warm welcome to all the dignitaries. Dr. Divya Puri, the resource person, and HOD Psychology & Coordinator of Psychological Counselling Cell, shed light on the holistic state of health, emphasizing the significance of both physical and mental well-being. Dr. Bhavnaish Chand, the Principal of GDC Ramnagar, addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of diet in overall well-being. Dr. Chand provided insights into how students can incorporate local fruits and vegetables into their daily diet for the promotion of both physical and mental health. Dr. Divya Puri delved into the benefits of nutrition for mental well-being, discussing how certain foods can aid in preventing depression, stress, and act as mood enhancers. She educated students on the presence of harmful substances and preservatives in certain foods and stressed the inclusion of specific fruits and vegetables for overall well-being. Dr. Puri also shared the Toll-Free number of the SUKOON App, encouraging students to seek help for any mental health concerns. The student response was overwhelming, with NSS volunteers and other students actively participating in the query session. Dr. Rashmi Gupta, faculty of Physics, concluded the session with a vote of thanks to all participants. The entire seminar was organized under the guidance of Dr. Bhavnaish Chand, Principal of GDC Ramnagar. The organizing members, Prof. Ritika Mahajan (NSS PO), and Dr. Divya Puri (Coordinator Psychological Counselling Cell), played a pivotal role in creating awareness and fostering a supportive environment for mental health at the college.
