NEW DELHI, Nov 20: In response to the decisions made at the historic rally of the Joint Forum for Restoration of Old Pension Scheme Forum held on August 10 at Ramlila Maidan, New Delhi, and the Annual Convention of All India Railwaymen's Federation (AIRF) in Mumbai on November 8 and 9, 2023, employees of government industrial institutions, including railwaymen, are set to conduct a "Strike Ballot" on November 21-22, 2023. The ballot aims to determine the support for an indefinite nationwide strike demanding the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme.
Shri Shiva Gopal Mishra, General Secretary of All India Railway Men's Federation and Convener of Joint Forum for Restoration of Old Pension Scheme (JFROPS), announced that a meeting will be held on August 10, 2023, at Ramlila Maidan to discuss the single-point demand for the restoration of the old pension. The decision to conduct a "Strike Ballot" was ratified at the historic rally in New Delhi and through a resolution at the 99th Annual Convention of AIRF in Mumbai on November 8-9, 2023.
The "Strike Ballot" will seek the opinions of government employees, including those in the Defense Department and other government industrial organizations, through a "secret ballot" on November 21-22, 2023, across Indian Railways. The date for an indefinite strike will be determined based on the outcome of the voting. Shri Mishra emphasized that if more than 60 percent of employees vote in favor of the strike, a notice for an indefinite strike will be given to the government in January or February.
Reflecting on the massive turnout of central and state government employees at the historic Maharally organized for the restoration of the old pension at Ramlila Maidan on August 10, 2023, Shri Mishra stated that there is significant discontent among government employees regarding the restoration of pension for their social security. The employees are fully prepared to sacrifice for their rights, emphasizing that this fight holds immense significance for workers' rights. Shri Mishra highlighted that the "Strike Ballot" boxes have been sealed and delivered to workplaces across Indian Railways and other government industrial organizations, indicating the employees' eagerness to cast their votes in favor of an indefinite strike for the restoration of the old pension.
This development sets the stage for a potential nationwide strike if the government does not address the demands for the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme.
