Except for lies, they have not delivered anything to the people: Omar Abdullah
11/20/2023 10:46:24 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Nov 20: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Party Vice President Omar Abdullah on Monday said that the BJP's developmental claims in Jammu and Kashmir is a bundle of lies, accusing the party of betraying people in the name of bringing change and providing employment and development.
This he said while addressing a workers convention at Malwan, in DH Pora Kulgam. The convention was organized by State Secretary and In Charge constituency Sakina Itoo.
Party General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, Senior leader Mian Altaf Ahmad, Political Advisor to VP Mudassar Shahmiri, MP Anantnag Hasnain Masoodi, State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar, South Zone President Syed Tawqeer, former legislators Abdul Majeed Larmi, Showkat Ganaie, Sheikh Mohammad Rafi, South Zone functionaries Reyaz Ahmad Khan, Peerzada Faroz Ahmad, Safdar Khan were also present on the occasion. On the occasion, Omar Abdullah welcomed the son of the Apni Party leader into the party fold.
BJP has consistently betrayed the people, making false promises about elections, unemployment reduction, development, improved electricity, and other minor issues, Omar said adding, "Except for lies, they have not delivered anything to the people. The condition of electricity was not as dire as it is today, despite their claims of spending huge sums on development. Why don't they allocate more funds to provide electricity to the people of J&K? People are feeling the heat of the ongoing rice crisis created by the Government of India's decision to reduce allotment quota. They have no rice to eat and can't even afford to purchase it from the open market at an exorbitant rate. Government's actions with regards curtailment of ration quota has created a staple crises in the region. We are a rice eating zone but who's going to tell this to the government? They don't give a damn to it."
Referring to the Amshipora Shopian encounter, in which the army suspended punishment of the involved officer, Omar said, "With this verdict, the central government gave an impression to people that their blood is cheap." Speaking to reporters on the side-lines of the event, Omar said instead of curbing militancy, the region is witnessing rise in militant activities post-abrogation of special status of J&K that belies the claims of normalcy by Narendra Modi-led BJP Government.
Omar further said that the Government made deceptive promises to the country over abrogation of Article 370 where its revocation will end militancy. "Earlier, it was said that Article 370 pampered militancy in J&K and if it is abrogated the region will be militancy-free and people will heave a sigh of relief. But with the passage of time all these promises and assurances have proved deceptive. Instead of curbing militancy, there is a huge rise in militant activities in J&K. The militants killed in Samnoo DH Pora a few days ago who were drawn into militancy after 2019 is a case in point."
