2/10/2009 10:40:10 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU FEB:10
“Ignoring people’s needs and aspirations can disseminate a wrong notion about the performance of he present government if the present government continues to neglect people’s concerns the credibility of democratic institutions would be eroded and alienation among the masses can get resurfaced, said MLA, Mohd Yousuf Tarigami while interacting with various deputations from Wachi, Kulgam, Humshalibugh, Devsar, Noorbad and Shopian assembly constituencies, who called on him here today for putting forward their demands and problems. The CPI (M) state secretary assured the deputationists that he will project their concerns at appropriate quarters to seek early redressal, and expressed deep anguish over the growing problems in the valley, especially in rural and far off areas, adding that had the divisional and district administrations been sensitized to address and mitigate sufferings of the valleities, they would have not been subjected to come Jammu for seeking redressal of the problems confronting them.
Tarigami argued that denying basis amenities to the people was entirely against the spirit of a welfare state, so the government should take contingency and effective measures to solve people’s problems.
Taragami assured the deputatioistst that during ensuing Budget session of the state, he would highlight their concerns and seek responses of the concerned ministries, as he was obliged to do so as a representative of the people.
Maintaining that Wachi, Kulgam, H.S Bugh, Drvsar, Noorabad and shopian areas of south Kashmir were endowed with vast horticulture and tourism potential, Taeigami demanded for setting up of a Horticulture Research Institute, fruit processing unit and cold store in the area, besides showcasing and exploiting the tourism potential. This, he said, would help promote horticulture and tourism activities in south Kashmir and maximizing job opportunities for local youth.
He appealed the government for conferring sub-divisional status to Noorabad, Tehsil status to Yaripora and setting up community block at Katrasoo and Ashmujil. He demanded opening up of degree college at Damhal Hanjipora and Yaripora, besides Women’s college at Kulgam.
Tarigami also demanded for setting up of full-fledged district industries centres (DIC’s) at Kulgam and Shopian areas.
