NCERT recommends Ramayana, Mahabharata in school textbooks: BJP hails decision

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 22: In a significant development, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) committee's decision to recommend the inclusion of epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata in school textbooks has been warmly welcomed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member Raman Suri.
Suri, expressing his support for the committee's suggestion, emphasized that integrating these holy Sanskrit epics into the curriculum would instill a sense of nationalism and responsibility among students. He highlighted the global references to these epics on various occasions and asserted that their incorporation would contribute to building a morally grounded society.
The BJP leader reminisced about a previous commendable decision by a high-level NCERT committee, advocating for the replacement of 'India' with 'Bharat' in textbooks and the introduction of 'classical History' in lieu of 'ancient History.' Suri applauded these efforts to reconnect with India's cultural roots and urged the government to adhere to the committee's recommendations.
According to Suri, epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata are repositories of valuable lessons, teaching the importance of one's connection with the motherland, ethical governance, and fostering strong familial bonds. He asserted that the inclusion of these epics would counter the influx of irrelevant content in textbooks, promoting self-esteem, patriotism, and pride in being a Bharatiya among students.
Suri criticized the current education system for turning children into mere machines and producing workers devoid of moral values. He contended that teaching Ramayana and Mahabharata would not only mold individuals into responsible citizens but also help curb brain drain by instilling a sense of pride and identity.
Furthermore, Suri commended the proposal to inscribe the Preamble of the Constitution on classroom walls, considering it a significant step towards reinforcing democracy and secularism. He stressed the importance of students understanding the Preamble and respecting the national flag, expressing hope that these recommendations would be swiftly accepted for the betterment of education in the country.
