Symposium on "Constitution And Gender Equality" at The Law School

JAMMU, Nov 28: In commemoration of Constitution Day, The Law School at the University of Jammu organized a Symposium on "Constitution And Gender Equality" on November 28, 2023. The event began with a pledge taken by the faculty and students, reciting the Preamble of the Constitution.
Dr. Monika Bhardwaj, Assistant Professor, welcomed the participants and discussed the theme, emphasizing the collective efforts and objectives to achieve gender equality. Prof. Manju Jamwal, Director of The Law School, delivered the Presidential Address, highlighting the significance of goals like Equality of Status and Opportunity, as enshrined in the Constitution's Preamble. She delved into gender-specific legislations and the judiciary's contribution to maintaining gender equality jurisprudence in India. Stressing the importance of following fundamental duties, she called for building a gender-sensitive society.
Following the speeches, students actively participated in discussions on constitutional provisions related to gender equality. Dr. Seema Sharma, Associate Professor, provided insights into the widening gender gap in India despite various provisions and schemes for women empowerment. Dr. Monica Narang, Associate Professor, emphasized the need for the right kind of education to prevent the reinforcement of gender stereotypes.
The program saw the attendance of around two hundred students and faculty members from the department. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Nitin Sharma, Assistant Professor.
