Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 11: Terming music as "bridge of peace between estranged communities and regions" Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture Shyam Lal Sharma said that music brings cultures together and fosters the integrity of the nation in testing times.

Speaking on the third day of DD Kashir`s live 5-day music festival Jugalbandi (fusion) here, Sharma said "Music has the power to conquer nations and continents as it connects the minds and souls of people irrespective of religion and culture .The artists who performed live in this festival today have sent a strong message across the sub-continent and the world in these trying times of hatred and enimity that music knows no language and religion and can bring together people of more than 150 countries on a single platform which we are witnessing during this festival."

Appreciating the work of DD Kashir and Director DDK Srinagar Dr Rafeeq Masoodi for organizing the live music festival, Sharma said "The festival has brought to fore the talent of budding singers and such festivals should be held more frequently."

He added that Jugalbandi part III that would be held in Srinagar in the month of July may prove a great boon to the tourism industry of the Valley as "it is the peak season and the festival would be a treat for music lovers of the world and sub-continent."

Speaking on the occasion Chairman Public Service Commission (PSC) Mohammad Shafi Pandit said "There are two important messages which have emerged today from this festival. One is that we should not forget our veteran artists and honour them from time to time as they are our cultural ambassadors and second is that at the same time we should encourage the young talent to come forward."

Earlier the third day of the festival saw a fusion of the novice singers like Parveen Banoo who performed her first ever live solo performance along with the veteran singers like Rashid Hafiz.

Sharing her experience and views Banoo who performed on a Gojri song said "The response from the audience was unexpected and I would never ever forget this experience. I am thankful to DD Kashir for providing me an opportunity to perform live on this platform along with senior singers."

Explaining that such platforms give exposure to the artists and provide them an opportunity to assess their own performances Muneer Ahmad Mir who performed a Kashmiri song said "It is a good initiative by the DD Kashir and I believe that more such festivals should be held. Every artist has a high opinion about himself but when you are performing on a platform which is a blend of veterans from different regions in a fusion you come to know about the level of your confidence and singing which could be improvised by interacting with other artists and learning from them."

During the third day of the music festival, the audience enjoyed some scintillating performances by Manzoor Shah, the Chakri maestro Rashid Hafiz and the budding singer Shazia Bashir of the famed talent hunt show Milay Sur.

More than 13 items were performed on the third day of the festival which included Dogri folk song by Romalu Ram, Kashmiri song by Muneer Ahmad Mir, Urdu Ghazal by Subhash Lange, Gojri song by Parveen Banoo, Duet by Kusha Sharma & Chinmey, Chakri by Rashid Hafiz, Dogri folk song "Baakh" by Pradaman Singh & Krishna Kumari, Kashmiri song by Shazia Bashir,Kashmiri chakri by Manzoor Shah, Pahari song by Tariq Pardesi, Masarat Naaz & Syed Kabul Bukhari, Kashmiri song by Ravi Bhan and Mixed culture song & dance by Manorma Kala Kendra Jammu
