Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 30: MIER College's School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SoSSH) celebrated Constitution Day with a series of engaging events, including a guest lecture, participation in a nationwide online quiz, and a documentary screening. Dr. Ellora Puri, Senior Assistant Professor at the University of Jammu, served as the resource person for the occasion.
Constitution Day, observed on 26th November each year, commemorates the adoption of the Indian Constitution. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment declared November 26 as "Constitution Day" in 2015 to encourage citizens to uphold the values of the constitution.
Students from the four-year undergraduate Honours and MA Political Science programs actively participated in the events organized by SoSSH. The activities included an online quiz, recitation of the Indian Preamble, a documentary screening on Samvidhan, and a guest lecture on the theme "Constitution is a Living Document."
Dr. Puri, in her guest lecture, emphasized that the Indian Constitution is considered a living document due to periodic necessary revisions. She discussed the revolutionary initiative of freedom fighters and highlighted the constitution as a continuous and gradual transformation. The lecture covered fundamental rights, guiding principles, and the responsibilities of Indian citizens. A Q&A session allowed students to seek clarifications and deepen their understanding.
Prof. Adit Gupta, Principal of MIER College, commended SoSSH for planning diverse activities that actively engaged students in understanding and safeguarding the constitution. Nandini Puri, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Political Science Programmes, expressed gratitude in a formal vote of thanks. The celebration aimed to instill a sense of responsibility among students as future citizens entrusted with preserving the essence of the constitution.
