GDC commemorates World AIDS Day with online lecture

RS PURA, Dec 1: In a collaborative effort, the NSS and NCC units of Government Degree College (GDC), R. S. Pura, joined hands with the Tehsil Legal Service Committee, R.S.Pura, to organize a compelling online extension lecture themed 'Know AIDS: No AIDS' on the occasion of World AIDS Day. The event was conducted under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Rajni Bhagat, the college's Principal, demonstrating a collective commitment to raising awareness about HIV infection.
World AIDS Day, observed annually on December 1st globally, serves as a significant platform for individuals, organizations, and institutions to spotlight Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection. The objective is to enhance awareness, knowledge, combat stigma, and advocate for a heightened response to end the HIV epidemic.
Advocate Rita Sarangal, serving as the Guest Speaker, delivered an insightful presentation, providing a detailed account of HIV infection, with a special focus on the context of Jammu and Kashmir. The informative session aimed to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of the virus and its implications.
Dr. Chanchal Angral, NSS Programme Officer of the college, welcomed the guests and participants. In her inaugural address, she shed light on the significance of increasing awareness and disseminating information about HIV infection. Emphasizing the practical implications of observing World AIDS Day on various platforms, Dr. Angral highlighted the importance of collective efforts in the fight against HIV.
Dr. Rakesh Choudhary, NCC ANO, addressed the gathering, stressing the need for constructive steps to eliminate chronic diseases and make the planet a safer place. The event, coordinated by Dr. Chanchal Angral, received active participation from members of the NSS, with Dr. Sunil Kumar Mangoch, H.O.D Dogri, delivering the formal vote of thanks.
Dr. Renu Sharma and Prof. Vishal Sharma, among other NSS members, were present at the event, contributing to the success of this educational initiative. The online extension lecture proved to be a valuable platform for fostering understanding, dispelling myths, and promoting a united front in the ongoing battle against HIV/AIDS.
The event concluded on a positive note, leaving attendees inspired and better informed to contribute towards a world free from the stigma and challenges associated with HIV.
