Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 1: Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, Additional General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, expressed serious concern about the acute shortage of drinking water in the Jammu region, challenging the claims of 75 percent coverage of households under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). Sadhotra criticized the administration's assertions, stating that the ground realities contradict administrative statements. Sadhotra took stock of arrangements for the Zonal Convention at Tikri, organized by the Zone Committee Reasi-Udhampur Zone. During the meeting, he highlighted the scarcity of water in various districts, including Udhampur, Reasi, Katra, and others, emphasizing that even as the administration boasts about water quality monitoring, taps are running dry. He questioned the credibility of the JJM, pointing to the Rs. 13000 Cr scam alleged by a senior J&K IAS officer, which he claimed has been ignored. Sadhotra demanded accountability from the Jal Shakti Department and urged the government to address the issue urgently, ensuring a smooth and dependable water supply. He suggested deploying tanker services if necessary and called for a CBI inquiry into the alleged scam. Sadhotra criticized the Double Engine Sarkar for economic and infrastructural boasts, asserting that the reality is reflected in the dry taps. He called on the government to prioritize the basic need for drinking water and implement effective policies to ensure sustainable and equitable water supply for all. Former Minister Abdul Gani Malik, Zonal President, assured that arrangements for the convention were in place, and District Presidents and Block Presidents had been consulted. Sadhotra appreciated the efforts of leaders and workers and urged them to bring the burning issues of the Udhampur-Reasi Zone to the notice of Vice President Omar Abdullah during the convention. Other leaders accompanying Sadhotra included Satwant Kour Dogar, Surjit Singh Manhas, Ghar Singh, Ankush Abrol, Abdul Gani Teli, Rakesh Sharma, Dr. Vikas Sharma, and Kuldeep Sharma. |
