| SAYSS to resume protests on Feb 13 | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 11-Months after it reached an agreement with the government on the use of land during the Amarnath yatra, the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (SAYSS) today said it will protest in Jammu on February 13 against the non-implementation of the deal. With elections round the corner, the Samiti accused Omar Abdullah government of dragging its feet on the issue, saying the present government has "not even cared" to meet the committee leaders who tried to resolve the issue. The SAYSS, which spearheaded the two-month-long agitation on Amarnath land row last year paralyzing life in the city, said demonstration will be held at district and tehsil headquarters throughout the Jammu division to remind the government of fulfilling its commitment on the implementation of the agreement. Samiti convenor Leela Karan Sharma told reporters here today that the decision to hold demonstration was taken in the core group meeting of the Samiti after consulting the general body. As per the agreement reached in August last year, the government had agreed to withdraw criminal cases against those who participated in the agitation and also the Public Safety Act (PSA) invoked against Swami Dinesh Bharti, Sharma said. Sharma also charged the government with not providing compensation to traders, transporters, and fruit and vegetable growers who suffered during the agitation. He also asked all the nationalists to participate in the agitation.
