| ‘Peoples expect more from PDP than Govt: Mehbooba | | |

Jammu, Feb11: Underlining the role of an effective and responsible Opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti today said that people are expecting more from her party than the government.
Mehbooba was talking to reporters here today after she was elected as leader of the PDP legislature party.
The PDP president said that her party wants to give government ample time to perform and deliver on the its promises of governance while being an active watchdog in the opposition. “We don’t want to make early judgments, let them perform and deliver”, Mehbooba said when she was asked to comment on the efficiency of the new coalition government.
The Peoples Democratic Party today unanimously elected Mehbooba Mufti as the leader of the legislature party at a specially convened session of legislators held at the party headquarters in Jammu today. Her name was proposed by the senior party leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussein Baig which was unanimously endorsed by all the legislators. The party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was also present at the meeting.
The PDP legislators also unanimously appointed Sofi Abdul Gaffar, MLA Homshalibugh as the party's Chief Whip in the Legislative Assembly while Murtaza Hussain Khan would lead the party in the Legislative Council.
Close after the election of the Chief Whip, PDP issued direction to all its legislators to be present on February 13 in Jammu for voting in favor of the party candidate Sayeed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari for election to Rajya Sabha.
Briefing the media after her election as the leader of the PDP legislature party, Mehbooba Mufti said that at today's meeting the legislators thoroughly discussed the strategy to be adopted in the forthcoming session of the newly elected assembly and resolved to play an effective and responsible role for not only seeking the resolution of the Kashmir issue, but also to address the developmental and governance concerns of the people in all the regions and sub-regions of the State. "I think people have more expectations with the PDP than with the Government," she said and added that PDP would strive hard to come up to the expectations of the masses.
Senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussein Baig, who was also present at the media briefing, said the PDP would play the role of a responsive and responsible opposition and seek justice for genuine political and economic concerns of the people in all the regions of the State.
