| DODA DISCONNECT | | | Early Times Report BATOTE, FEB 11: The Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah today inspected the alternate road alignment at Assar and climbed up to the last height of trans-shipment route from Batote side. To feel the degree of difficulty the people were facing in trans-shipment, the Chief Minister climbed up to 1½ km to reach the highest point. He took an on-the-spot assessment of the ongoing works, following the caving in of the road-stretch between Assar and Tungral on Friday last. On his arrival from Srinagar, the Chief Minister directly flew to Batote and later went to Assar by road. He was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner, Ramban. This is the Chief Minister's second visit to the area in less than a week to get a firsthand review of the progress of the restoration work. Expressing satisfaction over the trans-shipment arrangements made by the administration, the Chief Minister climbed up and down nearly three kilometres and en route interacted with the general public, who were part of the trans-shipment of people and travelling on ponies and on foot. The Chief Minister walked along with them and enquired about their problems arising out of the snapping of the surface link between the twin districts of Doda and Kishtwar and the rest of the State. Asking the authorities to explore possibilities for transportation of essential supplies by boat from the Baglihar dam site at Chanderkote to Pul Doda, Mr. Abdullah also issued instructions for making special arrangements for candidates of Assar, who have to travel long distances for filling up their forms for different posts. He said these candidates should be provided facility to complete their formalities for police posts at SSP's office at Ramban and for SSRB posts at Batote, till the road link is restored. On his return from Assar to Batote, the Chief Minister had an aerial review of the realignment of the road from Doda side to see the progress of the work. The Chief Minister yesterday had taken up the issue of new alignment of road with the Union Surface Transport Minister, Mr. T. R. Balu and also requested release of Rs. 10 crore to the Border Road Organization, the executing agency of the widening of the NH-IB. He had also summoned the Chief Engineer, BEACON to enquire about the work on the new alignment of the road at Assar.
