| BJP: Probe Baglihar planning, construction | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 12- Holding NC-Congress coalition government squarely responsible for plight of six lakh population of Doda and Kishtwar districts, BJP State General Secretary Bali Bhagat today demanded probe by a sitting Supreme Court judge to fix responsibility for ill-advised execution of Baglihar hydro electric project. Addressing a press conference here today, Bhagat said that the inquiry should bring to light the politicians-Bureaucrats- contractors nexus right from Jammu and Kashmir to Delhi and criminal proceedings be initiated against them for creating a man made disaster in the shape of project dam. He said it is astonished that Rs.6, 000 crore project was executed in the sate sector without going into details about the geology, environment and other critical factors. The BJP leader emphasized that the government should immediately issue a white paper giving full details from selection of site, technical clearance and allotment of work so that people come to know how the public money has been mis-utilized and that too for endangering their lives and property. He said that due to sinking of a vast road stretch at Assar and declaring unsafe the entire 30 km Assar-Doda portion of Batote Kishtwar highway, the situation has become volatile and people are scared due to apprehension of sinking of any village or hill that could spell disaster further. He demanded that immediate rescue and relief operation should be put in high gear and the affected and likely to be affected population both of Siraz area and left bank of river Chenab shifted to safer places. Referring to the acute sacristy of LPG, Kerosene oil and other petroleum products, food grains, vegetables and other essentials due to blockade of the highway for the last one week, the BJP leader charged that coalition government has failed to take any concrete step to tackle the situation except for conducting aerial surveys. BJP demanded that a fleet of Indian Air Force helicopters be pressed into service for Doda, Kishtwar and Bhaderwah to airlift the essential supplies, patients and other stranded people till NHIB is restored. He said work should be taken up on work footing for restoration of Kishtwar-Sinthan-Srinagar, Bani-Bhaderwah and Padder-Himachal roads, besides speedy completion of Bhaderwah Chamba road to provide alternate connectivity to Kishtwar and Doda districts.
