| EHSAS organizes seminar on importance of land resources | | | Early Times Report
Udhampur, Feb 12 A day long seminar on ‘Land Resources Conservation’ organized by EHSAS an NGO at village Thalora of Block Majalta for NGOs, SHGs & farmers sponsored by J&K State Land Use Board, Deptt. of Agriculture to aware the people about the importance of conservation of land resources here today. J S Sambyal Joint Director SLUB inaugurated the seminar whereas D S Jamwal, District Agriculture Officer, Udhampur presided over More than 125 farmers of Thalora and adjoining villages attended the seminar. Narsingh Dev Singh, Sarpanch Thalora in his welcome address highlighted the problems of the village in respect of soil and water conservation. Samyal in his address stressed upon the farmers to make judicious use of the land resources to save the same for survival of future generations. He warned about the fragmentation of the land holdings of the farmers leading to the decrease in production.He also asked the farmers to go for diversification of agriculture to get more and more out of the available small land holdings. S. A S Reen, technical Officer SLUB presented a detailed report of present status of land resources especially soil and water in the country and in the world as a whole by quoting different related data. He also suggested various soil conservations measures such as organic farming, non-fragmentation of land holding, construction of building on uncultivable lands, avoiding indiscriminate use of fertilizers, more and more plantations, intercropping etc. Atma Singh from Soil Conservation Department apprised about gully plugging, construction of water harvesting tanks, roof water harvesting, construction of bunds and highlighted various schemes of Soil conservation department.
