| NGOs’ demand inquiry into geological survey conducted for Baghliar project | | | Sarita Thakur Udhmapur Feb 12- Indian Democratic Human Rights Organization and Social Reforms Charitable Organization (NGOs ) of Udhampur have expressed grave concern over the sinking of vast area of Road near Assar and declaring of 30 Kms stretch of National highway from Pul Doda to Assar as unsafe due to Baghliar Dam. In a press statement, issued here today the vice president of IDHRO an NGO, Sarita Parihar and SRCO NGO Parvesh Kumar said that Baghliar Hydro electric project was badly planned which resulted into sinking of such large portion of hilly district of Doda and there is every apprehension of sinking of other portions along the banks of Chenab river from Batote to Kishtwar. They demanded immediate closure of Baghliar Hydro Electric Project and restoration of Chenab River in its original position and also demanded high level enquiry into geological survey conducted earlier. They appealed other social and environmental organizations to coordinate their efforts for initiating a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against government for such an irresponsible act resulting into human and environmental degradation. They added that present situation being faced by the residents of twin districts of Doda and Kishtwar is all due to wrong planning and survey conducted by concerned authorities despite spending crores of rupees on project They also demanded Air service for passengers and also urged state government to have a check over escalation of prices on all essential commodities due to road blockade.
