| Bhat expresses dismay over poor functioning of PDD | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 12- Peoples Democratic Party General Secretary and MLA Bandipora Nizam Din Bhat has expressed dismay over the functioning of departments pertaining to supply and maintenance of power in Kashmir Valley in general and hill district of Bandi pora in particular. In a statement issued here today he said that the commitment of Chief Minister regarding up keep, repair and replacement of non functional and damaged transformers has unfortunately not been kept as most of the transformers in various areas like Ajas, Kajipora, Kuloosa and in various Gujjar patis damaged in recent snowfall are neither being repaired nor replaced resulting in convince to consumers. At many places the people are forced to take to streets, which cause embarrassment to public representatives. Bhat said that consumers have been put to a heavy burden of electric tariff and people below poverty line are the worst sufferers taxing them without any corresponding relief due to lack of adequate power supply and frequent load shedding. He said that HT lines and LT lines need to be re-laid as also the receiving stations under hand require full augmentation to make the supply network reasonably efficient. He said that despite increase in the generation capacity in last few years the power supply has remained poor due to bad monitoring and poor supply network. Bhat has demanded a though review of power sector so that the funds that have been received from central kitty and are generated from local revenue and other sources are accounted for. He hoped that the present political dispensation will not go by political experiences and instead will look into the suffering of the people which can be undone only through proper utilization of resources. But said that since power development is a key sector and entire economic development hinges on the seriousness and concern about this sector, he expressed hope that the Govt will accord top priority to take immediate corrective measures so that the present scenario changes for good.
