Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 12- A day after Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti made public its plan to revive its agitation in Jammu to ensure withdrawal of cases slapped against religious gurus and others who took active part in organizing demonstrations during the 63 day long agitation, the state government prevailed upon the core group of the Sangarsh Samiti and urged them to postpone their protest call seeking time till February 28 to implement the agreement, earlier reached between the two sides on August 31, 2008.
On Thursday morning Devender Singh Rana, political advisor to Chief Minister , met members of the core group of the Sangarsh Samiti at the official residence of chief minister and after holding over one and a half hour long discussion the Sangarsh Samiti announced its decision to postpone the agitation till February 28.
The Sangarsh Samiti members were led by Leela Karan Sharma, convenor during the talks.
Speaking on behalf of the Sangarsh Samiti, spokesman Narinder Singh, informed media men the Sangarsh Samiti has decided to postpone its decision to organize protest against the state government till March 1.
"We have agreed to give time till February 28 to the state government and during our discussions with the Chief Minister’s political advisor we highlighted the issue of withdrawal of PSA against Saint Dinesh Bharti and compensation to farmers, traders, transporters and other businessmen who suffered huge losses during the agitation". Rana sought some more time to implement the agreement and we agreed to do so, he added.
It may be mentioned that unhappy with the poor response of the state government with regard to implementation of the agreement reached between the Sanagrsh Samiti and the state government in August 2008, the convenor of the Sangarsh Samiti Leela Karan Sharma on Wednesday chalked out a month long program of protest demonstrations and rallies at all the Tehsil and district headquarters to expose the intention of the state government
