Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 13- Lambasting state government for its failure to provide essential commodities in cut off areas, especially in Kishtwar district, the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today demanded opening Kashmir-Sinthantop-Anantnag road to mitigate miseries of the people.
In a statement issued here today PDP secretary Sayeed Asgar Ali regretted that for the last more than one week, residents of Kishtwar have been cut off from the rest of the world but authorities seem to be non serious in solving their problems.
PDP leader raised apprehension about feasibility and viability of Bani- Bhaderwah road and suggested that instead of wasting energy on opening Bani-Bhaderwah road, the government should rather open Kishtwar-Sinthantop-Anantnag road to provide essential commodities in the cut off areas. Sayed said that Sinthantop-Anantag road is already opened for traffic and vehicles are plying on this road. He suggested that authorities should open this road as it is the only feasible and viable track for the vehicular movement at this juncture.
Demanding a comprehensive plan to construct road to connect Doda and Kishtwar with rest of the State, PDP leader said that government should seriously take up this issue to protect life line of the people of Kishtwar and Doda. "Instead of taking cosmetic measures to open the road for time being, authorities should rather develop a concrete plan for this road", he said , adding, "track from Batote to Pul Doda has been weakening with every passing day due to continuous soil erosion in this belt". He further said that from Batote to Pul Doda the entire area is landslide prone area and according to geological experts, the lake has further loosened the soil that has caused sinking at many places.
He demanded that banks of the river Chenab needed to be treated and concretized at vulnerable points to prevent seepage of water.
Expressing his concern over increasing miseries of the residents of Kishtwar, he demanded that chopper services on reasonable fare should be started for the passengers so that stranded people should reach to their destination. He regretted that during the last one week authorities have ignored Kishtwar district despite being the fact that Centre has been earning whooping revenue from this area per day due to location of Dul Hasti power project.
